Next week na po ang schedule ng World Slasher Cup 1 sa Smart Araneta Coliseum.  Wala pang exact dates na naka post but it's supposed to be on January 16-22, 2011.  Abangan natin kung sino ang mga early favorites and sino mag CHAMPION.

May ticket booth malapit sa main entrance ng Araneta Coliseum, puwede ka doon bumili.  Last time naka panood ako, naki sabit ako kay Nong Dicky.  Sa ringside at sa likod ng Araneta ang daanan sa Parking area.  Naka post sa pala sa FB account ng World Slasher Cup ang schedule of fights today.  Ang entries daw nasa 320 entries and premyo abutin ng 15M.  Check nyo na lang mga bros. kung may FB account kayo.

Record Field Seen in World Slashers Cup 50th Year
The World Slashers Cup started by Don Amado Araneta in 1962 staged each year at the sports and entertainment mecca that is the Araneta Coliseum, enters its 50th year as the brightest and hottest torch burning continuously for Philippine cockfighting.

The semi-annual “Olympics of Cockfighting” hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions presented by B-meg Derby Ace and Thunderbird Power Feeds greets the Year of the Dragon with the biggest and most powerful cocking force ever assembled composed of the country’s finest pit heroes providing a brick wall of opposition against the invading foreign fighters from Japan, Germany, France, Malaysia, Guam, Saipan and the United States.

Set for January 16-22, hostilities will begin on the 16th with the first set of entries locking horns for their 2-cock eliminations followed by the second half of competitors taking on each other for their own preliminaries on the 17th. The 2-cock semis for Group A is on Jan. 18, while Group B meet again on June 19. The 4-cock finals for Group A is on Jan. 21 and the ultimate event is on Jan. 22 for the Group B finalists.

With 207 entries registered in January of 2009; 240 in January 2010 and 274 at the beginning of 2011, it is highly anticipated that the number of competitors will break the 300 mark for the first time.

Patrick Antonio (Sagupaan B-50) who ruled over 274 other entries in January last year and 2011 WSC-2 champions Rey Briones (Spartans DR-1), Boy Jiao & Ito Ynares (June 14 NCA Big Event Ynares Arena 220K Pot) and Rikki Reyes (@PR Knights Rian WRN) are expected to launch gallant defense of their titles.

Among the confirmed foreign participants as of this time are Roger Roberts (Georgia) , Ray Alexander (Alabama), Kali Casco (Hawaii), Larry Romero, Jason Campbell, Sedfrey Linsangan (Guam), Jorge “Goy” Goitia (California), Zosimo Antivo (Las Vegas), Clarence Perkins (Kentucky), Mike Formosa (Hawaii), Greg Berin (Australia), Jorge Torres (Californina), Zaldy Sandoval (California), Tony Ang (Taiwan), Chris Casilan (Hawaii), Rodel Costales (California), Jeff Hudspeth (California), Randy Hall (Texas), Tyrone Kennedy (Alabama), Mike Formosa (Hawaii), Peter Uren (Australia), Martin Barla & Jose Carcillar (Chicago) and Martin Barla (Chicago).
A big part of the field is comprised of U.S.-based Filipinos who are remotely maintaining gamefowl farms here in the Philippines and continuously sending into the country top-rated breeding stocks from some of the world’s most renowned rooster-raisers such as, Bruce Barnett, Dink Fair, Carol Nesmith, Larry Romero, Brad Padgeth, Allen Hinds and Speedy Gonzales among others.
