Mississippi raiders seize, kill dozens of cocks
Published: Tuesday, June 14, 2011,

The Sheriff’s Office of Piked County said they euthanized or killed all but eight of the 52 roosters confiscated during a cockfighting raid in Chatawa, Mississippi.

Roosterman Int’l learned this from reports published June 14, 2011 at al.com and wlox.com. Sixty seven persons were nabbed and fifty two birds were seized during the raid.

Raiders in the name of humane treatment of animals practiced the killing of the birds confiscated.

The reports quoted Sheriff Mark Shepherd saying his deputies raided the operation Sunday afternoon, and that the arrests concluded an 18 month operation. The raid involved about 35 officers.

Two were charged with felonies. They were 66-year-old Clarence Alex Bunch of Osyka and 24-year-old Mark Tulagan of Baker, Louisiana. Shepherd says Bunch is charged with racketeering and Tulagan with possessing crystal meth.

The naiders seized $39,000 cash and 52 birds were confiscated. All, except 8 birds that were kept as evidence , were euthanized.

All in all sixty-seven people have been charged in Pike County in connection with the cock-fighting operation.

Shepherd released five pictures of the opera-tion which involved 52 roosters, taken by investiga-tors from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and its chief investigator Robert Jordan.

The sheriff says he is very serious about breaking up these type operations in his county.

"The investigation is ongoing. I will tell you this is the second one we have dealt with in the past few years, we are serious about it and we are not go-ing to tolerate this type behavior in Pike County, and we will continue to be aggressive toward this type crime," the reports quoted Shepherd.

Eight birds were kept as evidence, the others were killed. Cockfighting has been declared illegal in whole of the US.

tama.. much better if they will stay here in the philippines.. because filipino are more open minded than american. they dont understand that chickens are born to kill another chicken. either with or without knife... they dont understand the ( i would call it) "Logic of Existence". that one should die for others to live. its a part of the food chain...
