This is just the same thing that happened when Matt Bitanga won the WSC before.  Using Winslet cocks in the finals since the entry of Dicky didnt make it to the finals.  Ganyan talaga ang sabong.  Do everything to win the money.  I dont see anything wrong with what PA did.  Kaya nga marami nag combine entries para maka pili ng maraming aces for the WS.  Credit goes to Rey Briones and not to PA.  Just my opinion.

Cocking Idol Patrick Antonio had possibly scored his 5th World Slasher Cup victory to tie the record 5 crowns held by Jun Santiago when Spartan DR-1 shared with 2 others with 7 wins 1 loss slates the 2011 WSC 2 title today at the Araneta Coliseum, but his claim to greatness was marred by questions raised on his ethics in taking ever team Spartan in the finals.

Spartan DR-1 of WSC June, 2003 champion Rey Briones barged into the finals with 4 straight wins. Now entered Patrick Antonio. The Philippines cocking idol who was eyeing both a sweep of the WSC titles this year and to tie the record of Jun Santiago, came in the finals fielding his chicken for the Spartan entry and personally releasing the cock himself.

The other champions were NCA Big Event of Gov. Ito Ynares and PR Knights Rian of Rikki Reyes.

AS Nowitski of Alan Siaco lost its last fight and missed a share of the title.

Spartan DR I took early lead with a win vs. octagon in fight no. 8.

After the first round in the finals, Spartan DR-1 and Liberator of James Uy were the only remaining teams with 5-0 perfect slates. While the two Panique-CAT teams had 4.5 pts.

In fight 35 Thunderbird dealt the Panique CAT group its first loss in 12 fights. Going into this fight Panique CAT had 5 wins and a draw while Panique CAT-1 had 4 wins and a draw.

Fight 37 saw Liberator suffered its first loss when it bowed to Alyssa Jordan.

Spartan, using birds of PA, scored its six straight win in fight 38 to take solo lead.

Spartan, again fielding a Sagupaan cock, bagged the championship with still a fight to go by winning its 7th assignment against AB Jaya BM of Thunderbird Feeds star Boy Marzo.

Spartan, however, bungled the shot at solo champion when it lost its last fight against Panique CAT-1.

Meanwhile, NCA Big Event and PR Knights Rian rallied from 3-1 standing going into the finals with 4 straight victories.

In fight no. 60 Antipolo JSF bowed to 333 Berjaya Group and lost all hope for as possible tie for the championship. Antipolo was going for its 7 wins in eight fights.

Whether Antonio would be credited with his 5th title will depend on how organizers will threat his participation in the Spartan team. Antonio came in only on the finals after Spartan already score 4 wins.

Antonio, fresh from his solo championship in the 2011 World Slasher Cup( WSC)-1 could tie the record of Jun Santiago. Since the inception of the modern day-WSC, in 1990, Santiago had won the title 5 times, the first time in 1990, twice in 1992, again in 1994 and the last time in 2005 after a long draught. On the other hand Antonio‘ s wins came more recently. The acknowledged cocking idol won the WSC 2 in 1997, the first to score 8 straight wins in the WSC. Then he repeated in 2000 and 2007 both in WSC 1. His last WSC title was last January again with 8 points. If Antonio will be credited with a championship in this years WSC 2 then he will not only tie the 5-title record of Santiago but also the sweep scored by Santiago in 1992 and by Peping Ricafort in 2000. Ricafort also won a title in 1993.

Obviously Antonio gave serious try at the records as he fielded 10 entries. But when none of the 10 scored perfect 4, he decided to combine with Briones in the Spartan team in the finals.

Spartan‘s victory triggered mixed reactions from WSC observers. While there were those who congratulated Antonio, a number of accusations—ranging from shrewdness to greed—were hurled against him.

2011 WORLD SLASHERS CUP-2 CROWN

The 2011 World Slashers Cup-2 held from June 6-12 at the Big Dome, closed with three entries sharing the title as the new world champions after finishing with identical scores of 7 wins and 1 loss each.

Closing with 7 points apiece to rule the field of 174 entries are Rey Briones (Spartans DR-1), Boy Jiao & Ito Ynares (June 14 NCA Big Event Ynares Arena 220K Pot) and Rikki Reyes (@PR Knights Rian WRN)

Tabloid executive Rey Briones, one of Thunderbird Wiining Team member, brings the province of Masbate to the fore of Philippine cockfighting again after bagging his second World Slashers Cup title which he first won in 2003. It should be noted that 2010 Bakbakan champs Doc Ronnie Magbalon and Engr. Ralph Daigo who scored a total of 19 wins and 1 draw with their ‘buliks’ last December are both Masbateños. Briones’ victory is also a seal of success for his gamefowl breeding venture, because this time, he fought his own produce from his Spartans Game Farm in Bulacan where he propagates his Spartan Red and Spartan White aces.

Probably the most unexpected of the three champions is that of Boy Jiao (June 14 NCA Big Event Ynares Arena 220K Pot) – also a Thundebird Sabongnation star, considering that he had only three points after the elims and semis. Jiao who is in Macau for a vacation texted that he used Kelso-Roundheads and Kelso-Greys. This is Jiao’s third WSC title.

Young fighter Rikki Reyes, who used to be known as the son-in-law of top cocker Boy “Bulalayaw” Marzo, now makes a name for himself as one of the league’s most feared cocker-breeder after pocketing his first world title via his (@PR Knights Rian WRN) entry, financed by Ortee Reyes and Val Samson, Rikki fielded his own breeding of RDR Greys and RDR Blueface Hatches.

The WRN team of Wilson Ong, Rikki Reyes and new Thunderbird endorser Nestor Vendivil had the biggest share of the limelight with Reyes winning the championship, Ong’s Octagon Rian WRN-1 scoring 6.5 points for runner-up honors, while Vendivil (Oliver WRN-1) and Rikki Reyes, in his other entry (@Rian KSA TNT WRN), closed with 6 points each.

Sharing the runner-up spot with Ong are Buddy Robregado (Big R) and the tandem of Bebot Roxas & Peping Cojuangco (Paniqui-CAT) which had two entries going strong midway in the finals with 4.5 7 5.5 points respectively, but folded in the home strecth.

Derbies, which in the past were nothing but instruments for gambling, have now become tourna-ments. The World Slasher is an example of an event that offers much in terms of honor, that not a few are attracted to it not so much for the money involved as the esteem attached to it.
During the recently held WSC 2, Spartan DR I of Rey Briones swept its as-signments in the two-cock elimination round and 2-cock semi final to score perfect 4 points going into the final stage. In the finals, however, it was Patrick Antonio who showed for team Spartan. It was Antonio‘s cocks that carried the banner for team Spartan. After scoring 3 successive wins, team Spar-tan was standing champion and poised to bag solo
championship should it hur-dle its last fight. Observers who were following the event on the web started offering speculations. Some ques-tioned the propriety of Anto-nio‘s action of taking over the team. The motive was scrutinized. Antonio who was eyeing a record tying 5th WSC title already had 10 entries. But none of the 10 had scored 4 straight wins after the semis. Has his show for team Spartan placed him in a position to win the title?
Well, one thing was sure, it was not illegal or against the WSC rules. It had been done countless of times.
Speculations were only with regard to the mo-tive. Others placed it as an attempt to hug the limelight in the finals after none of his
10 entries score perfect 4 points. To them, it was at the very least somewhat a sign of greed.
To us judging by the standard of his being a sportsman, then maybe it was uncalled for. But judging by his being a gambler and a businessman, then nothing was wrong with it. Maybe he really wanted to win the pot money. Or maybe he wanted to keep his Sagupaan prod-ucts in the limelight by showing Sagupaan chickens vying for the title.
After all Antonio already had all the accolades he needed. Perhaps he could not ask for more. If anything, he might have overlooked that such move did not con-form with the now popular perspective that sabong is a sport.
