Spotlights-on-patrick-antonio-as-wsc-2-kicks-off-today

Spotlights will be focused on the entries of congressman Patrick Antonio as the famed World Slasher Cup, heralded as the Olympics of cockfighting, unfolds starting today (June 6 in the Philippines) at the historic Big Dome that is the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Metro Manila.
 
The acknowledged sabong idol, fresh from a perfect 8-0 showing in the 2011 World Slasher Cup 1 last January, is eyeing to equal the 5-title haul in the WSC held by Jun Santiago.
 
Patrick Antonio’s Sagupaan will be the team  to watch in the 2011 World Slasher Cup-2 Eight-Cock Invitational Derby since he is not only eyeing a to tie Santiago’s 5-title feat but also a sweep of both the WSC 1 and WSC 2 in a single year. This was achieved both by Santiago in 1992 and Peping Ricafort in 2000.
 
The event which was formally launched at the Gateway Suites in Gateway Mall at the Araneta Center in Cubao, the other day will also be participated in by foreign entries lead by multi-titled American Carol Nesmith. Among the other foreign participants will be Ray Alexander and Roger Roberts, both former champions of the event.
 
Also participating will be Jeff Hudspeth, Kali Casco, Tyrone Kennedy, Randy Hall, Mike Formosa Sedfrey Linsangan, Zosimo Antivo, Jorge Goitia, Clarence Perkins, Jorge Torres, Zaldy Sandoval, Jason Campbell, Bill McNatt, Chris Casilan , Aussies Gerard Inmam and Peter Uren, and . Taiwanese Tony Ang.
 
The defending solo champion is the very dangerous tandem of Atty. Art de Castro and Eddie Aparri.
 
The 2-cock eliminations will be fought today and tomorrow.. They will be followed by 2-cocks semis on June 8 and 9. The 4-cock finals will be on june 11 and 12. 2011 WORLD SLASHER CUP-2 8-COCK DERBY OPENS TODAY AT THE BIG DOME


It’s record-breaking time again as the much-awaited 2011 World Slasher Cup 8-Cock Invitational Derby kicks-off today at the historic Araneta Coliseum with more than 170 entries vying to claim the title of World Champion.


Hosted by the Pintakasi of Champions and presented  by Bmeg Derby Ace with Thunderbird Enertone as major sponsor, this mid-year event is expected to be a toss-up among the solo champions of the last four World Slasher Cup stagings. These are January 2011 champ Patrick Antonio; June 2010 winner Atty. Art de Castro & Eddie Aparri; January 2010 victor Engr. Sonnie Magtibay who bagged the title just 52 days after he won the 2009 Bakbakan 10-Stag National Derby and May 2009 top bet Marcel Julao.


Locking horns today starting at ten in the morning are some 100 competitors belonging to the first batch of entries for their 2-cock eliminations with each other fighting to gain early important points before the semis. The second set of participants tries to outclass each other tomorrow June 7 for their 2-cock preliminaries. The 2-cock semis for Group A is on June 8, while Group B meet on June 9. The 4-cock finals for Group A is on June 11 and the ultimate event is on June 12 for the Group B finalists.


During the last five years, the World Slashers Cup’s number of entries has constantly increased, boosted by the active participation of foreign-based Pinoys and OFW-cockers who, despite their being abroad, have been operating and maintaining their respective gamefowl breeding farms in the Philppines. The January 2009 Slashers edition was actually ruled by three foreign-based Pinoys… Rolly Gabon and his Chicago “gang” (MJRG); Rodel Costalles (Spoiled sa Amo) and  Jorge Torres of California (Cucamonga) . This time, the “balik-sabong Pinoys” are led by Josue Bacolod, Jr.  from Davao who is a contractor in Angola – in partnership with Ormoc Gold breeder Bernie Tacoy.


Among the confirmed foreign participants as of this time are Roger Roberts (Georgia) with Nene Araneta , Ray Alexander (Alabama), Kali Casco (Hawaii), Sedfrey Linsangan (Guam), Jorge “Goy” Goitia (California) with Biboy Enriquez, Zosimo Antivo (Las Vegas), Clarence Perkins (Kentucky) with Mayor Jesry Palamares, Carol Nestmith (Oklahoma) with Francis Lumunsad, Jorge Torres (Califorina), Zaldy Sandoval (California), Tony Ang (Taiwan), Jason Campbell, Bill McNatt, Chris Casilan (Hawaii), Jeff Hudspeth (California), Randy Hall (Texas), Tyrone Kennedy (Alabama), Mike Formosa (Hawaii) with Rey Flores and Gerard Inman with Jimmy Mariquit.


The powerhouse home team boasts of June 2010 Slasher champ Rey Briones of Masbate, Boy Marzo of La Union, Gerry Ramos, Engr. Sonny Lagon of Cebu, Honey Yu of Quezon, Mayor Cito Alberto of Catanduanes, Pol Estrellado of San Pablo City, Engr. Sonnie Magtibay of Palawan, Nene Abello & Raffy Yulo of Bacolod, Benigno “Boy Lechon” de Roca, Cavite Int’l Derby champion Boy Gegato, Mike & Tonton Romulo, Felix Trebol.
